The names are familiar but the group and the music is new. Meet the Allman Betts Band, led by Devon Allman and Duane Betts. The pair rolled into Studio A with acoustic guitars, along with Johnny Stachela, playing slide on an electric guitar, and percussionist R. Scott Bryan. This stripped-down unit performed a pair of tunes, "Melodies are Memories" and "All Night," from their debut album, Down To The River.

The album was recorded with a seven-piece lineup that also includes Berry Oakley Jr. on bass, John Ginty on keys and John Lum on drums. All was captured in glorious analog at Muscle Shoals Sound, which doubles as a museum and studio. On this FUV Live session, Allman and Betts offer some insights on the recording, as well as how they doubled down on the studio's history and their own backstory.
