Theft of Service Bill Rally

Customers have been walking out of beauty salons without paying for as long as shop owners can remember. WFUV's Marina Kopf has more on a bill that will prevent this.

The crime is called, theft of service, and there is a law that protects business owners from customers who eat a meal or ride in a cab and leave without paying. But that original law does not protect hair salons and barber shops. There doesn't seem to be a reason why beauty salons were left out, but Senator Marisol Alcantara and Assemblywoman Alicia Hyndman want to fix that.

Alcantara says that people use minor excuses, such as going to the ATM, to leave the shop and never come back to pay.

Alcantara and Hyndman, along with members of the hair salon community are calling on Governor Cuomo to sign their bill into law.
