In between Radiohead projects, Thom Yorke put his creative mind to work scoring Luca Guadagnino's 2018 remake of the cult art-horror film Suspiria. The soundtrack is an intricate balance of suspense and beauty, and it adds up to a great new solo album from Yorke.

I sat down with him at Electric Lady Studios in New York for a detailed conversation about the experience of composing this material, and his inspirations. He also performed songs from Suspiria live at the piano and on guitar, as well as a bonus solo version of a Radiohead classic.

Below, you'll find photos from the session and video of "Open Again," as well as audio of the full conversation and performance. It will also air on WFUV this Friday, December 7 at 8 p.m. on a special edition of "The Whole Wide World."

Songs featured:

  • Volk
  • Has Ended
  • Open Again (live)
  • Unmade (live)
  • Suspirium (live)
  • Bloom (live)

[Recorded: 11/19/18; Engineer: Sam Petts-Davies; Assistant Engineer: Zach Brown; Producer: Sarah Wardrop]
