Thousands Gather for Slain NYPD Officer Brain Moore's Funeral

Tens of thousands of cops from all across the country came to Long Island to pay their respect to NYPD Officer Brian Moore at his funeral on Friday. The 25 year old died Monday after being shot in the head two days before while on patrol.

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton spoke at the funeral. He called Moore a "cop's cop." He said despite the short period Moore was a cop, he had already proven himself an outstanding officer. Bratton said he had an "eye for the street" and "could smell a gun, as they say." 

"Not even five years on, but he was already on anti-crime, 150 arrests, already decorated many times. As his cousin John said, if he shook your hand and said he was going to do something, it was going to get done," Bratton said at the funeral.

Mayor de Blasio also spoke at the funeral on Friday. He said Moore devoted his life to protecting the people of the city.

"Brian Moore represented the best of New York City. He was brave, for sure. But his bravery was matched by his compassion," de Blasio said.

Bratton said the country needs more officers like Moore.

"We are increasingly bearing the brunt of loud criticism. We cannot be defined by this criticism. Because what is lost in the shouting and the rhetoric is the context of what we do," Bratton said.

Bratton posthumously promoted Moore to detective first grade during the funeral.
