Transit Advocates Speak Out Against Cuomo's Budget

Transit advocates demanded Governor Cuomo restore 65 million dollars in promised funds to the MTA. Advocates said in 2011 the governor rolled back a tax that helped to fund the MTA, promising to replace those funds every year. But this year, he's falling short to the tune of 65 million dollars. New York State Assemblywoman Carmen De La Rosa said the state should be allotting more funds, not less, to the MTA. She said subway service in her Upper Manhattan district is woefully under-par.

"We're talking about underrepresented communities being able to travel across our city to serve our city and to get services from our city," De La Rosa said.

Sarah Boyde has lived in New York City all her life. She says she's seen a decline in the quality of the city's underground.

"I've seen more rats within the last year than I have growing up. So, to see that difference, it obviously means that more money needs to be put into it," said Boyde.

The governor's office has refuted claims that MTA funding has been cut, saying transit funds have actually increased overall.
