Mayor DeBlasio will declare a Winter Weather Emergency on Saturday but in a press conference this afternoon he said the city is well prepared.  He expects mass transit to continue running during the storm.

"We know in these kinds of storms, bus routes of course are affected, sometimes the overland elements of the subway system," he said. "But from everything we can tell right now a lot of the subway system will be unaffected or at least can continue going on."

The Mayor assured New Yorkers that he was in close contact with state officials in Albany including Governor Andrew Cuomo, who's asking people to avoid driving over the weekend.

"If you dont need to be on the roads, unless its an emergency, dont be on the roads," the Governor said,  "because it realy is an unnecessary risk."

The snow is expected to begin around 5 a.m. Saturday morning and will continue into Sunday.  So far an increasing number of flight cancellations and delays have occured at JFK, Newark, and LaGuardia airports.  The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning and says New Yorkers should prepare for up to 12 inches of snow.
