If we were lucky and David Bowie were still striding down the frozen streets of Manhattan, collar turned up against the bitter cold, he would celebrate his 71st birthday this Monday, January 8. But next week, January 10, also  marks the second anniversary of his sad, untimely passing. On tonight's UKNY at 11, an hour dedicated to the man, his songs, and his many influences.

Bowie's spirit is still very present in 2018 — the Brooklyn Museum will bring the excellent V&A exhibit, "David Bowie is," to New York from March 2 through July 15. This Monday night, coinciding with Bowie's birthday, HBO will premiere Francis Whatley's new documentary "David Bowie: The Last Five Years," which traces Bowie's re-emergence in his later life and the evolution of his last, very personal works: the stage play Lazarus and his album Blackstar.

In addition, Bowie's son, Duncan Jones, recently announced a book club inspired by his father's voracious love of reading, with selections plucked from his 100 favorites which encompassed fiction, non-fiction, and essays. Unfortunately, the first book selected, Peter Ackyroyd's novel Hawksmoor, is out of print in the States and tough (and expensive) to find before the first reading deadline of February 2, so American Bowie fans might have to wait until the second choice before following along.

Too frozen to listen to tonight show? Once you thaw out, catch up to UKNY on demand in the Weekend Archives immediately after broadcast.
