Whenever I spend time in London, a diverse and vivid city that I love, I always find it difficult to return to New York. But my most recent trip back to the States might have been the most challenging, for a myriad of reasons, both personal and splayed across newspaper headines.

So tonight's UKNY at 11 will reflect the music that buoyed me while roaming London's streets, listening to the radio, watching gigs in clubs, and browsing in record shops, including new releases from Spiritualized, Anna Calvi, Underworld with Iggy Pop, LUMP's Laura Marling and Mike Lindsay, Mesadorm, and the brotherly Belgian duo of Soulwax.

The fantastic Beth Orton plays two shows in New York at National Sawdust, tonight and tomorrow, and I'll have a new — but very old — track from her as well, a collaboration with her pals Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons of Chemical Brothers.

Tonight's show is dedicated to Anthony Bourdain, whose empathetic embrace of humanity and the world's cultures is more important now than ever (especially people who've immigrated to the States and brought their glorious customs and food along),  and my friend Dave Brockett, who guided his family and friends with playful humor, sweet generosity, and infinite courage.

Catch up to UKNY on demand in the FUV Weekend Archives.
