I've been in Reykjavík and Akureyri since Wednesday for Iceland Airwaves, covering the festival for FUV. On tonight's UKNY at 11, an overview of some of the many international artists who've descended upon both cities from November 1-5, playing both official showcases and off-venue gigs. We'll hear from bands from Iceland, like Kiriyama Family and Fufanu, Britain's Kelly Lee Owens and Michael Kiwanuka, Australia's Gordi and others.

In addition to artists like Ásgeir and Vök, I had the chance to catch Jófríður Ákadóttir, who records solo as JFDR, play at both Hof in Akureyri (part of this year's Icelandic Airwaves is being held in this northern city too) and at Reykjavík's the Loft, a hostel, during an off-venue event on Wednesday night. Like Sigur Rós, her songs are at once ethereal and commanding — and I'll play a track from her most debut solo album, Brazil.

Also, something from the mighty Kate Bush, this week's FUV Essentials — her albums, especially 1985's Hounds of Love, changed my entire perspective of music and writing.
