Where were you in the fall of 2008? As you might know, FUV has been flashing back decade by decade for the last four Thursdays of the summer — 1998, 1988, 1978 and 1968 — but tonight on UKNY at 11, on this first full day of autumn, I thought I'd just throw things back by a mere ten years, to a handful of notable British and international albums of 2008.

And it was quite a year, with remarkable debuts from Laura Marling, Foals, and Adele and also the last studio album (so far) from Portishead. There were some fantastic one-offs too, via The Week That Was, a side project from Field Music's Peter Brewis, and Umalali and the Garifuna Collective, a ten-year research odyssey undertaken by Belizean producer Ivan Duran.

Travel back in time at your leisure too, and catch up to UKNY in the Weekend Archives, immediately after broadcast.
