UPSET SPECIAL: FORDHAM DEFEATS DIVISION I TEMPLE 30-29
Eric Mollo, WFUV Sports
Fordham starts off 3-0 for the first time in 25 years.
There was under 5 minutes to go in the game when quarterback Michael Nebrich stepped back on the field with his offense, down 29-23 to Temple. The Rams had been up 20-7 at one point, but the return of Owls quarterback Connor Reilly sparked the offense. Nebrich remained poised, even after barely converting two 4 plays on the last drive of the game. With just seconds left, Nebrich threw it 29 yards to wideout Sam Ajala for the score and the win.
On the One on One post game report, I had a chance to catch up with Mike Watts and Mack Rosenberg, the announcers for the game. They gave their insights into the hard fought win, especially all of nail-biting moments of Fordham’s last drive. Both discussed the tremendous play of Nebrich - 23 for 36, 320 yards and 2 touchdowns. They also mentioned kicker Mike Marando and his career high 47 yard field goal. DJ Sixsmith, the sideline reporter, got the chance to talk to an excited Coach Joe Moorehead, drenched from his Gatorade bath.
This victory gives the Rams back to back upsets and has the chance to make them a real contender for a potential FCS top 25 ranking. The focus now shifts to rival Columbia for the Battle of the Liberty Cup. Fordham’s taken the victory the last 3 years and they go for 4 next week.
