"Welcome Home Bernie" Sanders Hosts Rally Outside Childhood Home in Brooklyn

In a rally today, Bernie Sanders spoke to supporters in Flatbush, Brooklyn right outside his childhood home on 26th street.

Pointing up to a fire escape-laden, brownstone apartment complex, Sanders showed the crowd where he spent the first eighteen years of his life.

"We used to hang out on the corners of Kings Highway. On this street I spent thousands of hours playing punch-ball," he asked his supporters, "Do they still play punch-ball?"

The young crowd, donning "Feel the Bern" clothing, pins, and the like, laughed in response.

Senator Sanders then began to speak on his working class roots and today's working class.

"[There were] a lot of folks who didn't have a lot of money. So growing up here, I learned the major lesson I've learned in my life on economics. And that [is that] there are millions of [Americans] today who struggle every single day to take care of their families," said Sanders.

He blamed the wealthiest in America for this increased struggle, saying they disproportionately dominate the wealth distribution in the country.

"End this disgrace where the top 1 tenth of 1% now owns almost as much wealth as the bottom 90%. Unacceptable." said Sanders emphatically.

Throughout the rally, he defined his campaign as a "bottom-up" movement and as manifest of the need to "think outside of the box."

"Brothers and sisters," Sanders quieted supporters, "I grew up in this community, and I remember it very well. And I know that from this community and from all over this state and all over this country, there is a movement developing that says it is too late for establishment politics and estabishment economics."

This rally is one in a few in the upcoming week before the close April 19th primary versus Hillary Clinton.

"We started this campaign 60 points behind where Secretary Clinton was. Today two out of the three last polls have us leading her," prided Sanders, "There is a democratic primary coming soon. We can win this primary."
