Dar Williams Takes The WFUV Pop Quiz

In the spirit of the Bernard Pivot Questionnaire which James Lipton uses on "Inside The Actors Studio," we've created "The WFUV Pop Quiz."  Periodically we'll buttonhole FUV's favorite artists and ask them to submit to our eccentric list of questions.

Check wfuv.org September 12-14 for a contest to win front row center seats to Dar Williams at Town Hall on September 29.What's got you hooked (CD, book, TV show) right now?

Moby.

What song do you wish you'd written (and why)?

"Famous Blue Raincoat" by Leonard Cohen, because it says so much with little details.

Who do you wish had recorded one of your songs (dead or alive)?

The Byrds.

What's your favorite song to play at soundcheck?

'"Closing Time" by Lyle Lovett.

What song would you sing in the shower (but never in public)?

"Enough Is Enough" (Donna Summer) and Barbra Streisand.

What other artist would be the most fun to tour with?

All of the jam bands – probably Blues Traveler.

Who was your favorite Beatle (and why)?

Ringo. I always liked the shaggy guy.

What's the biggest misconception your fans (or the press) have about you?

That I sound like Joni Mitchell - I don't.

Do you cook?  What's your signature dish?

No, my husband does.

What's your favorite sport?

Basketball.

What album do you put on when you want to dance?

Wilco's Summerteeth and also African Playground, the Putumayo compilation.  I dance to that with my son every morning.

To chill out?

To chill out I listen to talk radio.

What wacky thing would you do if had the time (or guts)?

Run for office.

Hear John Platt's conversation with Dar on the City Folk Sunday Breakfast, September 18, between 8-11 am.  Dar's new CD, My Better Self, is released on September 13, and she will be performing at Town Hall on September 29.
