Newport Folk

Ryan Adams, Live In Concert: Newport Folk 2016

Ryan Adams is well on his way to becoming a Newport Folk regular. For his 2016 set, Adams brought along some special guests: the modern bluegrass band The Infamous Stringdusters and their frequent collaborator, singer-songwriter (and accomplished viral-video kazoo player) Nicki Bluhm.

Violent Femmes, Live In Concert: Newport Folk 2016

Even though Violent Femmes played the Newport Folk Festival midway through a bright summer afternoon, the rock band's new song "I Could Be Anything" made the sunny field feel like a packed pub, where beer has made everyone friends, and revelers bellow out drinking songs with arms thrown across shoulders.

Newport Folk 2014: Sunday

Fine, we were due for a little rain, but it's not stopping Team FUV, here in Newport with our friends from NPR Music. We're uploading music from the main stage, which we're archiving in the FUV Vault. Photos of all the action are going onto our Flickr stream and in the gallery below.

On the Fort Stage Sunday: Mavis Staples, Jeff Tweedy, Conor Oberst, Dawes, Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, Ages and Ages, The Berklee Gospel Choir

Of course we had to head over to the Harbor Stage to see some of that fine Hozier fella (with special guests), and get our guitar groove on with Rodrigo y Gabriela on the Quad Stage. And speaking of special guests, the turnout for Mavis Staples' 75th birthday is going to be the talk of the festival for years to come!

Newport Folk 2014: Saturday

A beautiful Saturday in the park on the water, and Team FUV is here with our friends from NPR Music to upload music from the main stage, which we're archiving in the FUV Vault. Photos of all the action are going onto our Flickr stream and in the gallery below. We'll keep this page updated as we go.

On the Fort Stage Saturday: Nickel Creek, Deer Tick, Shovels & Rope, Pokey LaFarge, Aoife O'Donovan

There were a couple of surprises on the Quad stage, including Austin big band The Oh Hellos, who had the place jumpin', and New Orleans guitar dynamo Benjamin Booker. Shakey Graves shook the Harbor Stage, another fine Austin representative. More to come!

Newport Folk 2014: Friday

Team FUV is back at Fort Adams State Park to transmit molecules of music and pixels of photos across the interwebs back to New York. Friday was an absolutely beautiful day, weather-wise and otherwise. We're here with our friends from NPR Music to send home audio of the main stage sets, which we're archiving in the FUV Vault. We'll keep this page updated as we go.

On the Fort Stage Friday: Ryan Adams, Band of Horses, Jenny Lewis, Devil Makes Three, Anais Mitchell & Jefferson Hamer

We also got to run around and enjoy sets from the other three stages, with highlights from Wisconsin's Phox, our hometown friends Lake Street Dive - who brought their friend Mavis Staples out to sing "Bad Self-Portraits" - and the great Communion Records showcase on the (indoor!) Museum Stage, which included Hozier, Willy Mason and Bear's Den. See the photo gallery below for the emotion, the sweat and tears, the colorful festy getups, and a really cute dog named Annie.
