NYC Council Considering Plan for Arts & Culture

Proponents say the plan would benefit more than just artists.

Some New York lawmakers are trying to make the city more friendly for artists. The city council is considering conducting a study that would examine the state of art and cultural education in New York, and create a plan to support the city's artist community.

"Arts and culture do not affect just those who work in the field," said Stephen Levin, who is sponsoring a bill to create the plan. "They affect all of us. They inspire us and challenge us, and they make us the dynamic people we are. And the dynamic city we are."

The plan would study multiple facets of New York's arts and cultural community. According to the bill, this includes the state of arts education in local schools, and which neighborhoods are better for artists than others.
