Next year, New Yorkers will be able to get Municipal ID cards. They'll help people without a driver's license do things that require identification, like opening a bank account. But according to Mayor de Blasio, they'll come with some additional perks.

The cards will allow one year of free access to some of the city's signature cultural institutions.

"We are not an elitist city," de Blasio said at the Bronx Zoo on Thursday.

New Jersey lawmakers advanced a bill designed to improve transparency and accountability at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

It moves to the full Senate after a Senate committee approved the bill on Thursday.

New Jersey Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg and state Sen. Bob Gordon are prime sponsors of the bill, which grew from lane closings at the George Washington Bridge a year ago. The closures appear to have been politically motivated.
