Despite nice weather, many shore merchants say business was not as great as they had hoped.
Good weather at the Jersey shore made for a great summer for vacationers. But some merchants say business could have been better.
Muffie Cinelli, who works assisting tourists on the Belmar boardwalk, says her crew only had half of one day canceled due to weather this summer. That made this summer among the best the 84-year-old can remember. Christine Sroka of Morrisville, Pa., brought her daughter to Belmar every Tuesday and promises to be back next year. But despite the nice weather, many shore merchants say business was not as great as they had hoped. Some blame weather forecasts in New York and Philadelphia that casually tossed around their three most dreaded words - "chance of rain" - on days that turned out to be spectacular at the shore.
