Tenement Museum Offers a Blast From the Past.

The Lower East Side Tenement Museum tells stories of 97 Orchard Street in Manhattan, New York.

Their latest exhibit focuses on shops that occupied storefronts at the turn of the 20th century.  Vice President of Education at the Tenement Museum, Annie Polland says the exhibit features a rebuilt German Saloon from 1864.

She says they'll also display objects from other stores, such as a Kosher Butcher shop, an auction house, and an underwear store.

"It's such an important part of the history of the building and the neighborhood that we thought why not make an exhibit about that," says Polland.

Polland says "Shop Life" ends with a video of immigrant businesses in the neighborhood today to show that they still play an important role in the community.

Visitors can get a tour of the exhibit.  The Tenement Museum is located at 103 Orchard Street, New York, New York.
