It’s official. The Queensboro Bridge is now the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge.

Mayor Bloomberg signed the renaming legislation into law Monday.

The Mayor praised Koch as the quintessential New Yorker. "He's tough, outspoken and passionate about our city. It was his resiliency that made Ed Koch such a great Mayor. And it was under his leadership that New York City rebounded from the depths of fiscal crisis in the 1970s." said Mayor Bloomberg.

Mayor Bloomberg also called today's renaming "the perfect tribute"--saying Koch was responsible for saving the Queensboro bridge from near collapse and reinvested in other crumbling bridges in the city.

The Mayor also signed legislation officially renaming a portino of the Bronx's Southern Boulevard in honor of Dr. Theodore Kazimiroff, a notable dentist who worked to preserve history and nature in the Bronx.
