Christie says he'll restore $139 million lost in budget cuts with oversight.

Christie says he cut the money from the budget after Democrats removed critical oversight language.

Democrats said they wanted the oversight funding to come from the Department of Community Affairs budget, not from the transitional aid program itself.

The governor says he'll restore the funds with oversight.

Democrats in the Senate tried but failed to override the governor's veto last week. Three GOP votes were needed to send the measure to the Assembly.

More than $13 million has already been promised to a half-dozen cities operating on calendar-year budgets including Asbury Park.
