Initiative targets racial and social inequality.

Government officials and community activists say they'll be announcing a new initiative aimed at addressing inequalities in education, health care and economics in Hartford.

Congressman John Larson and Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra are scheduled take part in the announcement of the Hartford "Social Justice Initiative" Wednesday morning at City Hall.

Last year, Larson invited members of the Congressional Black Caucus to Hartford and they discussed racial and social inequality issues with state and local officials and community leaders. They came up with proposals aimed at addressing the inequalities and used them to draft the initiative.

Officials say they're also announcing a contest for Hartford students to rename the initiative.
