Bill Introduced to Create NYC Civil Justice Coordinator

by Associated Press

Stephanie Colombini, WFUV News

The City Council has introduced legislation that would create New York City's first civil justice coordinator.

The office would connect lawyers with people facing non-criminal issues. Those include housing court, immigration, custody, and other civil cases.

The legislation was introduced on Tuesday. It was a key component of City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito's State of the City address earlier this year.

The office would have an annual budget of $2 million.
