Amtrak down between Boston and NYC due to snow

Amtrak trains stopped by snow

Spokesman Cliff Cole says a large tree on some adjacent property fell onto the overhead wires above the tracks near Sharon, Massachusetts, around 7 a.m. Wednesday, damaging the railroad's power system.

He said the accident, in conjuction with the heavy snow, led to the decision to suspend service, including the shuttle that runs between New Haven, Connecticut and Springfield, Massachusetts.

He says there were no trains stranded on the tracks, and railroad officials planned to meet early Wednesday afternoon to discuss when and how to restore the service.
