The suburban railroad crossing where six people died in a collision between a commuter train and an SUV had undergone a number of upgrades in recent years to reduce the risk of accidents, but some planned work - the installation of a third set of flashing lights - was never done.

The Environmental Protection Agency has rejected almost all of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's plan to use clean water funds to help pay for a new Tappan Zee Bridge.
 
The agency says Tuesday that only $29 million of Cuomo's $511 million proposal meets federal requirements.

Westchester County police pulled over a driver on Thursday because he was missing a rear license plate. The officer found that the driver and his three female passengers had forged documents, and were subsequently taken into custody.
