Residents in storm-ravaged Coney Island and Far Rockaway are getting free medical attention.

New York City has sent mobile medical vans to help residents in hard hit Coney Island and Far Rockaway.

Many pharmacies and clinics closed after superstorm Sandy hit.

Volunteers are knocking on doors in high-rise buildings without heat or electricity to see if anyone needs help.

Lucy Lagenkamp is a nurse practitioner with the Community Healthcare Network van. She said free medical service is vital.

“There's really nobody to help provide them any bridge to services. So right now we are really the only thing that is bridging their medical care until the local community health centers get up and running again” Lagenkamp said.

Lagenkamp also said the van, currently stationed in the Rockaways, is treating about 30 people a day.
