WFUV Programs:

Beale Street Caravan

What better time is there for the blues? Saturday nights at 2am.

Straight outta Memphis:

From the home of the Blues - Memphis, Tennessee - Beale Street Caravan covers the world with the heartfelt sounds and colorful stories of the Blues and its music makers. Each week, Beale Street Caravan takes its audience the greatest Blues venues in Memphis and around the US. The world's best Blues artists are featured in intimate performances and recorded the way the Blues were meant to be heard - burning up a stage in front of a Blues-loving audience.

Great Memphis Blues clubs like Huey's and the Rum Boogie on world famous Beale Street. Great Blues special events like The W.C. Handy Blues Awards in Memphis, Tennessee. Great Blues festivals like: Telluride Blues and Brews Festival, Telluride, Colorado Mississippi Valley Blues Festival in Davenport, Iowa North Atlantic Blues Festival in Portland, Maine King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena, Arkansas. The program's lively magazine format delivers great music each week from the biggest names in Blues like legendary harpist Charlie Musselwhite, Texas music master Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, guitar-great Joe Louis Walker and singing sensation Shemekia Copeland.

Co-hosts Daren Dortin and Pat Mitchell kick off each week's program with this rousing introduction. In addition, celebrity hosts such as Sam Phillips, Jerry Wexler, Cybill Shepherd and others stop in each week to give the audience an inside view into the history and process of the Blues.
