WFUV Programs:

This is Only a Test

We're taking our forthcoming indie music service out for a test drive, and we'd like you to come along for the ride! Tune in Friday nights, 10pm-Midnight.

Preview our new indie music service

This Is Only A Test is a new program from WFUV, and a first listen to the new, full-time service we'll be bringing you starting this fall. That channel will feature a broad range of established and emerging indie rock and other styles, from across the city and beyond. [more info]

On This Is Only A Test you may hear artists like The Teenage Prayers, Antibalas, Budos Band, TV on the Radio and many others yet to be discovered, alongside established international artists including Arcade Fire, Bjork, and Death Cab for Cutie. It's a kind of laboratory where we'll experiment with diverse genres and sounds as we build a unique, full-time web and radio service made right here in New York City.

Help us shape it! Tell us what we're doing right, and what you think of the music. Drop us a note with your ideas or suggestions, or tell us about a band you think would be right for the show. Write to: test@wfuv.org.

Meet Rich McLaughlin!

We're happy to introduce Rich McLaughlin, who has joined WFUV as the first staffer for our new music channel. As Content Director, Rich will be shaping the station's sound, curating the music and hosting shows.

Rich comes to WFUV after seven years at Sirius Satellite Radio, where he created, programmed and hosted two popular alternative rock channels, "Alt Nation" and "Left of Center," as well as specialty shows. A Fordham University grad, McLaughlin learned the radio ropes while working at WFUV as a Fordham undergraduate.

"I'm happy to be back at WFUV, my favorite radio station," says Rich. "We're going to create a new channel that's going to change the way New Yorkers discover music, and I'm excited to be part of such an ambitious project."

"Rich has a huge reputation as a smart, forward-thinking programmer. We're really excited to have him back at WFUV, where he'll bring all this experience and his many talents to the new project," says WFUV's Program Director Chuck Singleton. Hear Rich every Friday night on FUV (and on-demand) on This Is Only A Test, and watch this space for more news!

About WFUV's Planned Service

The new service will be heard here at wfuv.org and on HD Radio at 90.7 FM in the New York City area beginning in Fall 2008. A companion to WFUV's flagship programming, which will continue in its present format, the new channel will provide the New York's burgeoning indie music scene with a full-time local radio outlet and connect artists and music lovers in New York and across the globe.

The channel is supported in part by The New York State Music Fund, established by the New York State Attorney General at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors. It will also feature a unique social networking website, created with support from the Public Media Innovation Fund of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
