This week's "The Bottomless Pit" is a big exercise in cronyism, featuring records by actual friends or acquaintances of mine. The Bottle Rockets, who I am on tour with at this very moment, are plugging a new twofer CD reissue of their first and second albums. These are classic records in my world. We'll hear as much of that stuff as the law will allow.
On the acquaintance side of the ledger, at least as of this moment, is the great Brendan Benson, who was born in the same hospital (in 1970) where my appendix was removed (in 1964). How about that!! We'll enjoy some selections from Brendan's great new album, You Were Right.
On this week's "The Bottomless Pit" we'll hear from Harry Nilsson, Dinah Shore, The Astronauts, Robert Gordon, The Sidekicks, Marian Harris and more. And as you may have guessed, all the records on the show (but one) are on either the RCA, RCA Victor or Victor Records label. Not for any particular reason, but that's the show!
As I said last week on "The Bottomless Pit," the passing of Phil Everly is no small thing, not a three-day story or a one-week story. Tonight at 10, we'll have the legally maximum amount of the Everly Brothers' music, plus many of their disciples, emulators and tribute payers.
As of right now "The Bottomess Pit" is going on an Everly Brothers binge of indefinite duration. Every week, for the foreseeable future, there'll be something by the Brothers on the show — maybe one tune, maybe several, but always something.
This week's show is a rerun from September 14 and features an extended Everly Brothers tribute segment during Part 1, one of my favorite things that I've ever done on the show.
