Giants Super Finish

by Amit Badlani

Super Bowl Win and Parade Fitting Climax to Season

By Steve Gray

It was déjà vu all over again at Lucas Oil Stadium after the New York football Giants defeated the New England Patriots for the second time in the past four championship games. Eli Manning played a nearly flawless game going 30-40 for 296 yards and a touchdown en route to his second super bowl MVP. Naturally, Manning orchestrated yet another fourth quarter comeback drive for the ages; this time with Mario Manningham as the hero after making a 38 yard David Tyree-esq catch to begin the drive. John DeMarzo was on location, and you can hear his comments in his Super Bowl XLVI piece.

After the game, Eli Manning discussed how the big time plays, faith, and toughness of the team won the game. Coach Coughlin compared Mario Manningham’s spectacular catch to David Tyree’s, he also contrasted this years championship team to that of four years ago. And Osi Umenyiora highlights the heart and character of the team, which allowed them to win six games in a row after losing to the Washington Redskins at home to go 7-7. These clips, and recap of the Giants historic game and season, can be found in the final Giants report of the year.

Then it was time to celebrate in New York City fashion with a ticker tape parade thrown by the city and Mayor Bloomberg. The champions paraded down the canyon of heroes on Broadway in South Manhattan, en route to their final destination of city hall where every member of the organization received a key from the city courtesy of the Mayor. The streets were filled with a sea of blue and white, and fans gave Big Blue and the Lombardi trophy an exciting welcome. WFUV’s own Chris Hilk was on the street during the parade and had the chance to catch up with a couple of Giants fans. I was on a float during the procession, snapping photos of the exciting event, and at the key ceremony where Tom Coughlin thanked New York and its fans. Also, Justin Tuck let everybody know they “got a ring.” These clips, and a recap of the parade can be found in the parade piece.
