Fordham Wins on the Road vs. Holy Cross

The Fordham Rams improved to 5-3 with a 36-32 win over Holy Cross in the Ram-Crusader Cup on Saturday. Carlton Koonce, the game's MVP, ran it in from one yard for the decisive score with 11 seconds remaining. Ryan Higgins completed 71/2% of his passes for 407 yards and a touchdown. Koonce ran 35 times for 187 yards.

Decisions, Decisions for the Yankees

This season’s Yankees Opening Day roster consisted of twenty one returning players, and the lone noticeable loss was of stalwart Jorge Posada, who retired in January after seventeen seasons in pinstripes.

However there is no guarantee the roster remains near intact once again as this year’s Yankee group was the oldest in the league, and numerous players are upcoming free agents. Other than the monstrous contracts of C.C. Sabathia, Mark Teixeira, Alex Rodriguez, almost everybody else is on the mend this off-season or next, with some due significant raises.

Fordham Comes Up Short at #20 Cincinnati

Fordham traveled to Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati Saturday night trying to beat an FBS team for the first time since Dwight Eisenhower was president, but they were defeated 49-17 at the hands of the Bearcats. A bright spot for the Rams once again was the kicking of Patrick Murray, who set a school and Patriot League record with a 55-yard Field Goal in the 2nd Quarter. Ryan Higgins was an impressive 31-42 with 262 yards passing and a late touchdown to Brian Wetzel.

Fordham Women's Soccer Notebook

As is customary, teams are tested the greatest when they go on the road. The Fordham Women’s Soccer team felt the effects of this proven theory, falling to 2-2 in Atlantic Ten Conference play after a two-loss weekend in Virginia. They dropped a 6-0 decision to VCU and, with an unfortunate bounce, lost a heart-breaker to Richmond 1-0.

It was the first conference road trip for the girls and the travel was noticeable. Coach Ness Selmani knows all too well that road games are never easy.

Fordham Names David T. Roach as New Athletic Director

On Thursday October 4th, David T. Roach was introduced to the Fordham community as the new Athletic Director for the university. The University announced Roach’s hiring on September 26th while Roach was visiting his daughter who is studying abroad in Australia. Roach is now back in the States, and he is ready to lead Fordham Athletics back to where they belong.
