Members of the '70-'71 Team Inspire Current Fordham Crop

The 2010-2011 Fordham Men’s Basketball season gets underway Friday and every ram fan is hoping it will mark the start to a new—successful—chapter in Rose Hill basketball history. Last night at the Roosevelt Hotel, alumni, boosters, and this year’s current team were reminded that success is no stranger to the Rose Hill Gym.

The 1970-71 team, of Sweet Sixteen and Madison Square Garden lore, was honored as new head coach Tom Pecora shared the stage with Ram coaching legend Digger Phelps, and got advice on how to make Fordham a regional and national basketball power once more.

After going 2-26 and winless in the Atlantic 10 last year, Friday’s 8 pm tip against Brown cannot come soon enough as the Rams hope to erase last season’s debacle from memory. Last night’s event helped to fill the Fordham faithful with confidence and served as a reminder of the storied and successful history that can never be removed.

Leading up to Friday’s season opener we will be posting interviews with players and coaches of the 1970-71 team, as well as speeches from '70-'71 coach Digger Phelps and team captain Bill Mainor, and current coach Tom Pecora.

We also have the full audio with commentary from the WFUV announcers along with Vince Hartnett, voice of the 70-71 Rams, of the presentation of the 1970-71 team.  The series will conclude on Saturday with selected highlights from the dinner played on One on One’s Basketball Preview show, starting at 1 pm on 90.7 FM and WFUV.org.
