The Rams grab a home win in the Bronx

In a game that was quite literally a must win for Fordham, the Rams emerged victorious in a closely contested match with La Salle 67-62.

With the win, the Rams improve to 10-17 overall and 3-11 in conference, and keep their slim hopes of reaching their first Atlantic 10 tournament since 2007-2008 alive.  The Rams must win their two remaining games, and need George Washington to lose their remaining two games, to make the A10 tournament.

Chris Gaston led the way for the Rams, as he had one of the best games of his career.  The junior led all scorers with 35 points, which tied a career high, and had a phenomenal 15 offensive rebounds.  However, despite Gaston’s efforts, the Rams trailed by 11 at the break, and needed a 12-0 run starting 5 minutes into the 2nd frame to take their first lead since the 1st half.

Fordham’s man-to-man defense stifled the Explorers, one of the top 3 point shooting teams in the country, in the 2nd half, as they were held to an 8-27 mark from the field, including just 1-12 from deep.  However, despite La Salle’s poor shooting, the game still went right down to the wire, as the Rams needed a Devon McMillan layup with 2:16 to go to put themselves up for good.
