Roach Brings Experience, Championships to Rose Hill
On Thursday October 4th, David T. Roach was introduced to the Fordham community as the new Athletic Director for the university. The University announced Roach’s hiring on September 26th while Roach was visiting his daughter who is studying abroad in Australia. Roach is now back in the States, and he is ready to lead Fordham Athletics back to where they belong.
Roach stood in front of many members of the Fordham Athletic Community. Joe Moorhead, Tom Pecora, and Stephanie Gaitley were among the Fordham coaches in attendance in Duane Library’s Butler Commons. Many student-athletes also came to meet their new Athletic Director.
Among the many points that Roach spoke about, he highlighted the importance of the individual student-athlete. Roach said that every decision that will be made by the athletic department will first take into account how it will affect the student-athlete. Roach also said that it would take a collaborative effort to change the face of Fordham athletics. He alone could not restore athletic excellence; that task also falls on the shoulders of the student-athletes, the general student body, and every member of the Fordham community.
