Coach Gaitley reviews Marquette, looks forward to Yale and Stony Brook
Despite shooting 6-35 from beyond the arc and getting outrebounded by 22 on the glass, the Fordham Rams fell just three points short of defeating Big East powerhouse Marquette this past weekend. The Rams are now 5-2 following the loss, meaning that for the second straight season Fordham has started the season by winning five of its first seven contests. However, as Chris Marasco and I talked about with Head Coach Stephanie Gaitley, this year’s squad has a completely different feel.
On this week’s episode, the veteran coach analyzed her team’s performance in Wisconsin and previewed Fordham’s matchups on the road at Yale tomorrow and at home Saturday against Stonybrook. As always Coach Gaitley made some bold statements, questioning the toughness of her forwards inside and challenging them to rebound better. In fact, Gaitley took this comment one step further by saying that the guards have been the leaders on the glass this season.
Before we got to Coach Gaitley, Chris and I had the opportunity to chat with freshman center Samantha Clark. Clark, who is the program’s first top 100 recruit, told us that the transition from high school to college hasn’t been easy. Now seven games into the season, the New Jersey native is finally getting her feet wet and will be a critical piece for the Rams going forward.
WFUV is the radio home for Fordham Rams Women’s Basketball all season long. Join us tomorrow night at 7pm as the Rams travel to Connecticut to take on Yale University. On Saturday, its an inner state clash as Fordham battles Stony Brook in the Rose Hill Gym at 2pm. Live broadcasts of these contests can be found on WFUVSports.org.
