Another Valiant Fordham Comeback Effort Comes Up Short

Heading into their game at Charlotte, Fordham knew they were up for a tough test. The 49ers entered the game with 14-2 record and had held their opponents to just 36.5% shooting, which ranked them tenth in the entire country. When it was all said and done, Fordham hung extremely close late in the game, but it was the 49ers who came away with a 74-68 victory.

The Niners were paced by a balanced scoring attack, led by DeMario Mayfield, who scored 18 points off the bench. Mayfield hit the only two three-pointers for Charlotte all game, but the Niners relied on their forwards to do most of the heavy lifting. As a result, Charlotte outscored Fordham 34-30 in the paint.

For the Rams, Branden Frazier led the way. The Junior stepped up on a night where senior Chris Gaston struggled (3 points and only one made FG). Frazier scored 23 points and hit many big shots for Fordham, however he missed a couple of big shots late and ultimately the 49ers pulled away late.

Despite the loss, Fordham proved that they could hang with one of the top teams in the A10, while playing in a hostile environment. With the loss, the Rams drop to 5-13 (1-2 in conference play), while Charlotte improves to 15-2 with a perfect conference record at 3-0.
