Another Poor Shooting Performance Dooms Fordham
It was Senior Day at the Rose Hill Gym Saturday. Along with senior team managers, there was one player who walked out to celebrate his Fordham career: Chris Gaston. Gaston has had a prolific career at Fordham and he received a huge ovation in front of the Fordham fans. Unfortunately, there was not much to celebrate after the opening tip, as the Richmond Spiders dominated Fordham, winning 72-55.
For the Rams, freshman Mandell Thomas led the way with 17 points. Thomas has been the Rams’ best player since the start of conference play. Meanwhile, Gaston struggled from the floor, scoring 7 points and grabbing 6 rebounds. He was double-teamed every time he touched the ball and struggled to get going. As a team, the Rams shot just 31%. A slow second half in the previous game against George Washington transferred to a rough game back at home.
For the Spiders, they were paced by a balanced attack. They hit 10 shots from beyond the three-point line. Freshman Deion Taylor led the team with 12 points off the bench. Four Spiders scored in double digits, leading Richmond to a fairly easy win.
Up next for the Rams is a trip to Philadelphia this Saturday (March 2nd) to play the Saint Joseph’s Hawks on Saturday at 7pm.
