Rams Fall To Hawks for Second Time This Season

Entering the Rams’ second matchup of the season against the Saint Joseph’s Hawks, the Fordham Rams had a lot of hope. In their first matchup with the Hawks this season, Fordham played them incredibly close and were a few missed free throws and turnovers away from coming out with a win. Saint Joe’s won that first matchup 66-62. The second time around was not nearly as close, as the Hawks cruised to an 82-56 victory.

The Rams were once again without senior forward Chris Gaston, who didn’t make the trip to Philadelphia because of a stomach virus. Ryan Canty picked up the slack in Gaston’s absence. The sophomore forward recorded 14 points and 15 rebounds in one of his best games of the season. Freshman guard Mandell Thomas was the leading scorer for Fordham, chipping in 15 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

For the Hawks, junior forward Halil  Kanacevic was a force early and often. His final totals were 12 points and nine rebounds, but most of those numbers came early in the game when both teams were struggling to find a rhythm. Kanacevic was the guy who got the Hawks started, but it was senior guard Carl Jones who carried the team throughout the game, scoring 24 points while shooting 5-8 from beyond the 3-point line.
