Rams Close Out Regular Season With Victory At Temple
The Fordham Rams have come a long way since game one back on November 9th against the University of Albany. At 22-7 and 11-2 in conference, the Rams finished the regular season as the third best team in the A-10. Its been a historic year for the Maroon and White, but it is far from over as Fordham prepares for the Atlantic 10 tournament in Philadelphia this weekend.
On this week’s episode of the Stephanie Gaitley Show, I talked with the head coach about the team’s 14-point victory over Temple, the keys for the postseason and the growth of her team. The veteran head coach told the program that she was impressed with her team’s resilience Sunday after a subpar practice the previous afternoon. Gaitley, who is now just two wins shy of 500 for her career, also said that she is amazed at how the leaders of this team keep the others in check.
Coach Gaitley was full of praise for a squad that saw two players in Marah Strickland and Erin Rooney eclipse the 1,000 career point mark. Strickland has most certainly had an interesting ride after she was supposed to play last year but sat out due to an illness. Gaitley said that she talks with the graduate student all the time about how God works in mysterious ways.
While it is unclear where Fordham will be by the end of the weekend, one thing that is for sure – the Maroon are playing in the quarterfinals of the A-10 tournament Saturday night. That game is scheduled for 7:30pm on March 9. The Rams will face the winner of Butler and St. Louis. Coverage for that contest can be found right here Saturday night starting at 7:25 pm. If Fordham wins Saturday night, we will have the call of the semifinals Sunday afternoon at 4pm. Coverage begins at 3:55pm right here on WFUVSports.org
