by Bob Ahrens

Pat Summerall visited WFUV on May 1, 2011 and spent some time visiting with the sports staff.  The next day he accepted the Vin Scully Lifetime Achievement Award in Sports Broadcasting at WFUV's Fourth Annual Gala.   Joe Tordy had the opportunity to get to know Pat in the months before the award ceremony and his special feature gives us an insight into this special man whose economy of words lets us know why the game is more important than the broadcaster.

Knicks Streaking Into the Spring…

by Steve Simineri

Michael Watts, WFUV Sports

Two Mondays ago, the Knicks were wrapping up their West-Coast trip from hell in Salt Lake City, when one of the unlikeliest heroes emerged.  40-year old Kurt Thomas delivered an inspiring performance on a fractured foot for his down-and out team, who had lost the first four games of the Western swing by 12 points or more.

Nolan Silbernagel and I talked with CBSsports.com NFL writer Clark Judge Saturday about the NFL, which still manages to be relevant even in its offseason. He visited Indianapolis last weekend for the NFL combine and shares his thoughts on who he had his eyes on. We break down some of the quarterbacks like Denard Robinson of Michigan and West Virginia’s Geno Smith and what their futures could be as we apporoach draft day. Then of course the big story of the week: Manti Te’o. Judge gives us his thoughts on his draft stock and the nature of scouts asking players questions about their sexual orientation.

Saturday afternoon Kris Venezia and I had the opportunity to get both perspectives from the two Super Bowl teams, supplying strong analysis and real life experiences to break down the game.

First we talked with Matt Vensel, Baltimore Sun Ravens blogger, asking him about the Ray Lewis controversy this week and Joe Flacco's performance. He also describes the Flacco's contract situation and the keys to the Ravens winning Sunday.

Clark Judge gives his take on the championship games and the coaching carousel. Clark also talks about Tom Brady making history and why his past two Super Bowl defeats were not his fault.
