With the sun shining in Cooperstown, New York, three men who have devoted much of their lives to baseball were honored at Doubleday Field on Saturday. For the third staright year WFUV Sports presented the Hall of Fame Awards Presentation live from Cooperstown on Hall of Fame Weekend.
Joe Garagiola was a player in the major leagues for 8 seasons, and never imagined he would be honored by Baseball the Hall of Fame. The St. Louis native couldn’t even boast about being the best major league player on his street, living just blocks away from Yogi Berra. Garagiola’s biggest contributions to the sport came not from the field, but from the broadcast booth.
The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, has been buzzing over the weekend. In the scrum, WFUV's Nick Logerfo, Kenny Ducey and Kris Venezia caught up with Bob Costas of NBC Sports and the MLB Network. He spoke about what's special with this year's Hall of Fame class that includes Joe Torre and Tom Glavine. Costas also told us his thoughts on the steroid era, and he even had time to give us his opinion on MLB's use of instant replay. Check out the full interview below.
