New York's Newest Addition Gives Yankees Depth, but Did They Need Him?
On Tuesday morning, it seemed unlikely the Yankees would pull the trigger on a deal before the 4 PM non-waiver deadline. However as 3:56 rolled around, it looked like they were about to make a trade - for Ryan Dempster. However when the dust had settled at 4:01, it was Casey McGehee of the Pirates who was sent to the Bombers - for reliever Chad Qualls. Texas, instead, landed Dempster.
Would the Yankees have been better off trading for Dempster and sticking with Nix and Chavez at 3B? Or does the fact that McGehee plays 1B and 3B give the Yankees much-needed depth?
Kris and I want your reaction on the deal, as well as your confidence in New York going forward. Are they still the overwhelming favorite in the AL?
