Brooklyn's Inconsistency Finally Catches Up

The stage was set for the Nets to become the 9th team in NBA playoff history to come back from a 3-1 deficit, hosting Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals in the Barclay's Center. Kirk Hinrich was out with a calf injury, Luol Deng rested in a Chicago hospital suffering from the flu, and Derrick Rose dressed in a suit ̶ still unable to play one year after tearing his ACL. Despite the Bulls' injuries and momentum from a two game winning streak, it was not to be.

Derrick Rose isn’t playing (yet), and that means Deron Williams is ready for the spotlight in his first playoff stint as a Net. “I feel good, I definitely feel confident. I’m excited about being back in the playoffs; it’s been two years since I’ve been there. I’m ready to go,” said Williams after Wednesday’s win over Detroit. Williams last played postseason ball in 2010, for the Utah Jazz, and averaged over 24 points per game. This time, though, he won’t be dishing to Carlos Boozer, Andrei Kirilenko, and Paul Millsap.

The Nets Snap Four-Game Home Slide, but Deron’s Back Hurts

Reggie Evans put it best when he said Deron Williams was “hot like fish grease.” The Nets’ star point guard jogged the memory of a sellout crowd Friday night, reminding Brooklyn of the elite scorer he was with the Utah Jazz. Williams carried the team on his back, connecting on nine first-half three pointers, an NBA record for most in a half. He finished with 11, and a season-high 42 points on the game, as the Nets took down the Wizards 95-78.

Johnson Saves the Day as Lopez Steps Aside

Joe Johnson hit a 15-footer from the free-throw as time expired, and the Nets squeaked by the visiting Bucks Tuesday in OT 113-111. He's now 8-for-9 shooting in the final 30 seconds of one-possession games. His 8^th attempt in those same scenarios? A trifecta with 1.3 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to an extra session. He showed the 17,334 faithful fans on-hand at the Barclays Center just how clutch he was.

The Brooklyn Nets made a statement Friday night in front of a sellout crowd at the Barclays Center, taking down the Bulls 93-89 despite some lackluster performances from their starters. With the victory, the Nets improved to 28-19, but more importantly they picked up a much-needed win against a team over .500.

Antsy Nets Axe Avery Johnson

Mikhail Prokhorov and the rest of Brooklyn Nets ownership fired Head Coach Avery Johnson early this morning on the heels of blowout losses to the Celtics on Christmas day and the Bucks last night. During his press conference this afternoon, General Manager Billy King said: “I just thought he [Avery Johnson] wasn’t able to get through to the players… somehow it just wasn’t translating to the players on the floor, for whatever reason.”
