With their Atlantic 10 tournament hopes hanging in the balance, the Fordham Rams were in desperate need of a victory Wednesday night at home against St. Bonaventure, a team that had defeated the men of Rose Hill by 44 earlier in the season. And while the margin of defeat did not match the severity of the contest back in January, Fordham decisively dropped another contest against the Bonnies 89-63 in the Rose Hill Gym.
Fordham didn’t just make waves in college basketball last weekend; Fordham alum John Skelton took the field for the Arizona Cardinals, netting a win in his first career start. Skelton avoided many of the problems that often force rookie quarterbacks back to the bench after their first start. He didn’t turn the ball over, didn’t get sacked, and even completed 40% of his passes.
As heard on today’s One on One, Tom Felice had a chance to talk to John Skelton, former Fordham quarterback and current Arizona Cardinal. They discussed life in the NFL and the differences between the pros and college.
Former Fordham quarterback John Skelton signed a four year deal worth nearly two million dollars last week. Skelton, a fifth round selection, received a signing bonus of $182,000 as part of the package.
As predicted, John Skelton was selected in this past weekend’s NFL Draft. He had to wait until Saturday afternoon, but just before one o’clock, the Arizona Cardinals made him the 155th overall pick, as they used a fifth round selection to grab the Fordham quarterback.
The first round of the 2010 NFL Draft begins in just a few moments. While Fordham’s John Skelton is not expected to be taken tonight, his anticipation is high as he gets ready for the weekend.
With the countdown to the draft at just over 48 hours, the attention on John Skelton is heating up. Over the last few days he’s been featured in several newspapers.
With a week to go until the first round of the NFL Draft, I sat down earlier with John Skelton, who has experienced a flurry of interest in recent weeks.
Fordham Football coach Tom Masella joined us on the phone from Oregon, where he’s visiting some of his friends on the Oregon Ducks coaching staff in order to swap ideas.
I talked with John Skelton for a few minutes today. The former Fordham QB had a busy spring break, traveling to Buffalo, Los Angeles, and Miami for a combination of work and fun. Here’s the interview.
