Bob Costas: The Last Word

Bob Costas is one of the most awarded sports broadcasters we have ever seen. A winner of an incredible 25 Emmy Awards, Costas has also covered multiple World Series, NBA Championships, Super Bowls, and Olympic Games. While all of those accolades are certainly noteworthy, Costas recently took home what he calls one of the great honors of his career, WFUV’s Vin Scully Lifetime Achievement Award.

On May 9, 2013, Bob Costas was awarded the Vin Scully Lifetime Achievement Award in Sports Broadcasting at the WFUV Annual Gala at the Edison Ballroom in Manhattan. It was a festive gathering of many familiar faces at WFUV, as Costas gave a moving speech in acceptance of the award. He told a few memorable stories about his favorite sport, baseball. In addition, he paid homage to the award's namesake, in saying that receiving the award was truly one of the great moments of his life.

WFUV's Fourth Annual Gala

The Fourth Annual WFUV Gala is on Monday night.  Taking home the Sound & Vision Award will be legendary rock band Los Lobos, and the Charles Osgood Lifetime Achievement Award in Broadcast Journalism will go to Tom Brokaw.  More importantly for our purposes, however, is the winner of the Vin Scully Lifetime Achievement Award in Sports Broadcasting.
