On this edition of Five on Three, Anthony Pucik, Martin McCormack and Brendan Bowers looked at the Washington Captials new all-time points leader, Alex Ovechkin, and where he goes from here. They also looked at the Pittsburgh Penguins' resigning goalie Marc Andre Fluery and what that means for them going forward, as well as the Rangers' defensive injuries, the Islanders recent slide and the Devils finally ending their shootout losing streak.

Devils Win First Shootout Since March 2013

March 10, 2013, a date which was 600 days ago, and 18 Devils shootouts ago.  On that date, the New Jersey Devils were at home against the Winnipeg Jets in a game that would be decided in a shootout.  The Devils would go on to win that game 3-2, winning the shootout 1-0 with Patrick Elias scoring the only shootout goal between the two teams.  Nobody who left that arena that night knew that they just saw the last New Jersey Devils shoot out win in exactly 600 days

In this edition of Five on Three, Anthony Pucik, Tara Sledjeski and Martin McCormack looked at the hot start the Nashville Predators are off to and whether or not they can keep it up. We also looked at the new regime in the Department of Player Safety and how they have handled recent incidents in the leauge and caught up with all three local teams. 

New Jersey Devils Drop Home Opener

After opening the 2014-15 season with a 4 game road trip, the New Jersey Devils returned to the Prudential Center Saturday night to begin their home campaign against the San Jose Sharks.  The Devils opened up their season on October 9th in Philadelphia with a 6-4 win, and then followed that up with a 5-1 win in Florida against the Panthers.  The Devils then stayed in the “Sunshine State,” and beat the Tampa Bay Lightning in a close 2-1 win.  On October 16, the Devils suffered their first loss of the season, losing 6-2 to the Capitals in Washington.

It almost seems like yesterday that the Los Angeles Kings defeated the New York Rangers to win the 2014 Stanley Cup. However, it’s been more than four months since Jonathan Quick and company hoisted the Cup, and a new season is upon us. Some teams began their 2014-2015 campaigns last night, but the New Jersey Devils are set to begin their season tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers.
