Something Sort of Grandish

by Mack Rosenberg

The Yankees welcomed back Curtis Granderson this week from a fractured forearm suffered when he was hit by a pitch in spring training. The 32 year-old has been a mainstay as the starting center fielder in New York since arriving in 2010. He’s hit over 40 home runs in each of the past two seasons, transforming himself from a speedster who knows how to get on base into a power hitting machine.

It is High, It is Far...

by Mack Rosenberg

These Yankees didn’t seem like the ones of years past. No big boppers, no home run slugging machines like we’re so used to seeing. At least it didn’t look like it. But yet here we are at the end of April and the Bronx Bombers are just that- Bombers.  The team has hit the second most home runs in all of baseball. They stand just one home run behind Justin Upton and the Atlanta Braves.

State of the Yankees: Kevin Youkilis, from Villain to Acceptance

by Nolan Silbernagel

It’s a warm, early spring night in the Bronx.  Kevin Youkilis steps up to the plate, and hits a ground ball that goes just past the shortstop and third baseman for a base hit, his second one of the night.

A long chorus of “Yoouuukkkk” from the 34,000 fans echoes throughout Yankee stadium.  If a similar scene were to occur within the past few years, when Youkilis was on the hated Boston Red Sox squad, one can almost guarantee the home New York crowd would have replaced “Youk” with “Boooo”.

It’s amazing how fast allegiances can change in sports.
