The famed cherry blossoms in our nation’s captial are at “peak bloom” right now (as reported by this site with beautiful pictures). It’d be a great weekend for a road trip down South, but if you can’t make it out of the City, the cherry blossoms at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden are due to bloom any day now.
Is declawing your cat a stress-saver, or animal cruelty? Manhattan Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal seems to think it’s the latter. She’s introduced a bill that would ban declawing cats, except for serious medical reaons. It would be the nation’s first statewide ban of the common procedure, which takes out pets’ sharp front claws. The bill hasn’t yet been introduced in the state senate, but we’ll be keeping our eyes out and our nail-clippers ready.
Just over two months away till Yankee Stadium gets a new soccer team. Yes, New York City Football Club, or NYCFC will be the first pro soccer team playing a whole season in the Bronx since the Cosmos left the old Yankee Stadium in 1976. And big news for US Men’s National Team fans: Mix Diskerud is rumored to have signed with the team this morning.
Word has just gotten out that the famed Staten Island Chuck has died. Or rather, ONE Staten Island Chuck. Apparently the groundhog whose job it is to predict how much longer winter will last every February 2nd is actually a collection of groundhogs.
