Advocates Call on Cuomo to Fund MTA Capital Improvements

Transit advocates in New York City are calling on Governor Cuomo to hand over promised funds for MTA capital improvements.

Advocates say the governor has plans for improvements like wifi and USB chargers on city transportation, but doesn't include any money for the changes in the state budget.  Nick Sifuentes, with the Riders Alliance, said the governor has promised 7.3 billion dollars for changes to the system, but is waiting until the MTA exhausts other resources first.

"Instead of giving that 7.3 billion dollars or any amount of the 7.3 billion," Sifuentes said, "the governor just gave zero, and said 'alright MTA, when you need the money, come and ask for it."

The Governor's Office said the state budget is clear that the MTA will receive the money when it needs it.
