Bronx Borough President Promotes College Readiness

In his State of the Borough Address, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. called upon the Department of Education to absorb the cost for college students taking remedial classes. According to him 78 percent of public high school grads took remedial courses at CUNY last year. He says the problem is not the students, but the schools.

"Students should not be forced to pay to catch-up in college after their high school failed them," Diaz said.

Diaz hopes this will keep students from accumulating unnecessary debt and encourage the City to promote college readiness.
