De Blasio: City Breaking Records in Creating Affordable Housing

The mayor says the city financed more than 24,000 affordable housing apartments last year.

Two-thirds were existing affordable housing units and one-third were newly constructed. De Blasio says his expansive housing goals are being met, beating previous city records. Mayor de Blasio said in November, after securing re-election, that he was setting the ambitious city goal of 300,000 units by 2026.

Some advocacy groups are happy to see more housing made available but are wary that not enough units are slated for extremely low-income tenants. Just 4,000 of the mayor's new units are for 3 person households making less than $25,000 dollars a year.
